Ultraman and Snow White, respectively, are an anime hero and a fairy tale character. They seem to have no connection and have dominated Eastern and Western pop cultures for more than half a century, while one is the idol of numerous boys and the other is the embodiment that girls dream of. Both of them guard and accompany young minds to explore the world and become invisible powers of healing the wounded souls.
Over the past two years, the spreading of COVID-19 pandemic, Russia-Ukraine war and other natural and man-made calamities have taken countless precious lives. The disordered nature and demented madmen have made the world at a loss as to what to do. People cannot help but vainly imagine that if there really were an ultra-man to protect the Earth, defeat the virus monsters and warlike devils who love making troubles, and restore the Earth to its original appearance, how wonderful it would be!
Unlike the nonsensical images and symbols of street and graffiti art at present, LI’s “super idol” and CHANG’s “princess” reveal deeper implications of human introspection and religious culture. It is worth recommending their works to a wider array of audiences and collectors.
