Ann Niu
Contemporary artist, Niu Ann, born in Shanghai (1968) and studied calligraphy and ink painting since childhood. She studied Western painting at the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, and went to Tokyo’s Musashino Art University for further studies. Niu Ann has a keen ability to perceive the details of life, and can often discover diverse themes from it. The works reveal profound and fresh cultural concerns, forming a meaningful artistic style.The life experience in multiple cultural circles has allowed Niu Ann’s art to develop in multiple directions. Niu Ann is deeply interested in fairy tales, the story of Mazu became an opportunity to Niu An’s exploration of Taiwan’s culture.
From the perception of inner images, lines and strokes are carried out in a short rhythm. Blurred rendering effects reflects her understanding and imagination of Mazu culture.
